Translate PDF online into a Word document

AIT Translator extracts text from a regular PDF or automatically recognizes pages in a scanned document with OCR, translates the content, and creates an editable DOCX. Structure and formatting are reconstructed approximately and may differ from the original.

A text-based or scanned PDF
Output
An editable Microsoft Word document in DOCX format
Formatting
Draft reconstruction of headings, paragraphs, and text structure
Context-aware translation
The document subject helps translate extracted and recognized text more precisely

Try PDF translation before paying

A free test translation of part of your PDF is available on the home page. It helps you evaluate translation quality and, for a scanned document, the OCR recognition result.

If the test limit is not enough, you can request an extended demo translation from support.

Text-based PDF or scan

If the PDF contains a text layer, the service extracts and translates the available text. If the pages are images, the service automatically detects the missing text layer and uses OCR before translation.

You do not need to enable OCR manually for a regular scan. Forced OCR is available only for unusual cases where a text layer technically exists but is damaged or produces incorrect extraction.

How to translate a PDF

  1. Open the translator and upload a file with the .pdf extension.
  2. Select the source language, target language, and document subject.
  3. Add a professional glossary when needed; the service determines the PDF processing method automatically.
  4. Review the estimate, start the translation, and download the DOCX output.

Why the translation is saved as Word

PDF is designed for fixed page display, while translated text almost always differs in length. DOCX provides a readable structure and lets you edit the text, spacing, and formatting afterward.

Draft formatting

The service does not promise a pixel-perfect copy of the original PDF layout. Columns, complex tables, diagram labels, images, and unusual block placement may be transferred only partially or require manual adjustment. OCR quality depends on scan resolution and readability.

More precise translation by subject

Specify the PDF subject so AI can use the domain context when translating extracted or recognized text. This is especially helpful for technical, medical, legal, and financial documents with ambiguous terminology.

For the most consistent professional vocabulary, specify the document subject and upload your own glossary when needed.

About PDF translation

What format will the translated file use?

The result is provided as an editable DOCX so you can review the translation and adjust formatting in Microsoft Word or a compatible editor.

Can a scanned document be translated?

Yes. OCR is used automatically for PDFs without a text layer. Recognition accuracy depends on page quality, orientation, and resolution.

Will the original PDF layout be preserved?

Only approximately. The service creates a readable document structure but does not reproduce the original page layout exactly.

How is the price calculated?

For a PDF with a text layer, pricing is based on non-space character count. For a scanned PDF processed with OCR, pricing is based on page count.

Can I use a glossary?

Yes. You can upload your own terminology glossary for both regular PDFs and OCR-recognized text.
